Dr. Vogt’s Journey in Bone Health
I started my regenerative orthopedic practice in 2017 when alternative orthopedic therapies were rare. Many of my patients came to me after conventional treatments failed or weren’t an option, like my 73-year-old patient who had stress fractures potentially linked to a common osteoporosis medication. Seeing firsthand how a drug meant to prevent fractures could be tied to causing them was a big wake-up call.
For a while, I felt stuck. Patients would ask if I could manage osteoporosis, and my honest answer was, “No. It’s not in my wheelhouse.” I wasn’t comfortable prescribing medications that might do more harm than good.
Then, in early 2023, I became the first sports medicine physician in the U.S. to offer an Italian-developed magnetic field therapy shown to improve bone density and help with fracture healing. Finally, there was a treatment option I believed in—one that could “do no harm.”
But how do we measure success? A standard DEXA scan doesn’t always give reliable information. Studies suggest that up to 90% of scans might contain errors. That’s where the Echolight REMS device comes in. It uses ultrasound, no radiation, and can be repeated as needed in a single visit. It offers a “Fragility Score” to assess your bone structure. So, if your bone density is low but your architecture is strong, your fracture risk could still be low.
OsteoSmart was born from this common-sense approach. We blend cutting-edge technology with safe, regenerative therapies to help you truly understand your bone health while staying proactive about protecting it.
Whether you’re worried about osteoporosis or want stronger bones, we’re here to guide you with tools that make sense and treatments that fit your life. Let’s get you moving, confident, and back to doing what you love.
