At OsteoSmart, we believe a prescription shouldn’t be the only answer you receive after an osteoporosis or osteopenia diagnosis. We see that belief reinforced every week, as more and more patients come to us looking for answers — and a path forward that doesn’t start or end with a prescription.

This week I want to share two patient experiences that speak directly to why OsteoSmart exists — and why getting a more complete picture of your bone health matters so much.

All patient details have been anonymized to protect privacy.

Patient One

This patient came to us after her physician recommended she start osteoporosis medication based on her DEXA T-score. What made her situation particularly interesting is that her T-score had been unchanged for two years. No progression. No changes. Yet medication was still being recommended.

We performed an Echolight REMS bone scan. Her results came back in the normal range.

Because the REMS scan measures more than just bone density — including bone quality, architecture, as well as providing a personalized Fragility Score — it gave this patient a more complete picture of her bone health. She left OsteoSmart with a clear plan: no medication needed at this time, a commitment to load-bearing exercise, and a follow-up Echolight REMS scan in one year to monitor progress.

She came in anxious about starting a prescription. She left with something better — real information and a clear path forward.

Patient Two

This patient’s most recent DEXA scan had actually shown slight improvement over the prior two years. Despite that, her new physician was insistent she begin a newer injectable osteoporosis medication immediately.

She told us she felt pressured — like her concerns weren’t being heard and her improving results weren’t being acknowledged.

I hear this more often than I should. And every time I do, it reinforces something I believe deeply: a physician’s role is to inform and guide — not to override a patient’s voice. Patients deserve to be heard. They deserve to understand their options. And they deserve to make decisions about their own care with full information — not under pressure. At OsteoSmart, we are partners in your bone health journey.

Her Echolight REMS results told a more nuanced story than her DEXA alone. Based on those results, we recommended she begin Limfa® Therapy — a non-pharmaceutical therapy that uses an ultra weak electromagnetic field to support and encourage the body’s natural bone-remodeling process. She will complete a treatment period followed by maintenance sessions, and we will repeat her Echolight REMS scan in one year to track her progress.

The Bottom Line

Two patients. Two DEXA scans recommending medication. Two Echolight REMS scans that told a more complete story and opened the door to a different path.

This is why we do what we do.

Until next time —
